Weather Cancellation Guidelines
NEW Thunder and Lightning Policy!!!!
The SSYSA board has adopted the following weather policy:
• If the temperature falls below 35 degrees or goes above 95 degrees, the games will be cancelled.
• Games will be cancelled if there is snow.
• Games will be cancelled if there are thunderstorms
(If you see lightning or hear thunder, clear the fields--See Policy).
Per NCYSA policy, play will be halted for a minimum of 30 minutes. If no lightning is spotted during the 30 minutes and/or no thunder is heard, play will resume. IF lightning is seen and/or thunder is heard during the 30 minute period, the clock starts over. No play will resume until a minimum of 30 minutes passes with no lightning and/or thunder. Referees are being notified of the new protocol effective immediately.
For rain days, it is up to the Field Coordinator to inspect our field to see if they are in suitable game condition.
The field coordinator will make this determination and then contact the division
coordinators for each age group. This decision will be made at 8 am on game day.
Announcement Guidelines
1. Prior to 8:00 AM on Game Day, the Field Coordinator makes the call on any cancellation, if necessary. The announcement will be made through Coaching Coordinators, Referee Coordinators, and will be posted on the website and Facebook.
2. After 8:00 AM matches go as scheduled with the Referee Coordinator and referee making the call for cancellation at the field. The Referee Coordinator and referee may consult with both coaches for help but they make the call. Any necessary announcements will be made through Coaching Coordinators, Referee Coordinators, and will be posted on the website and Facebook.
